MAMMOTH – Picture yourself a few years, months, days back to when you first join armies. You found a site filled with black, blue, green, or red. Here and there you notice your leaders mention an army news site, whatever that means, and you decided to look into it.
The vast quantity of news sites out there is beyond belief. A world of army sites that nobody have laid eyes on, posts that are waiting to be read, collecting dust pixels as the words begin doubt their exquisite posting style. Media circulating around armies have been around since as early as 2009. Many have tried to create their own army sites in the years. How many have successfully worked though: little to none.
Where do they originate from?
Club Penguin Army Central, a news site created on July 28, 2009 by Woton. Obviously the most successful news site to date, being the most popular and quality-centered site around. Another, Club Penguin Army Zone, created by SaW is considered an early start for army news sites. However, looking back a year before CPAC, to a site called the Club Penguin United Nations created by Mr Deedledoo created on April 11, 2008. Although the sole purpose of the site was to be a basis for small and medium armies to create alliances, it provided updated news on the current states of the armies centered around the site. As time went on it became one of the most visit sites of its time.
Why are they created?
This question depends on the time period. Back then these sites were pioneers for a whole new era, created to bring the community together and thrive. It was a new idea at the time that was fragile, only the right people were given the task to piece together a puzzle of unprecedented stories and philosophy. Now’a'days these sites are created for stardom, or a rank up in popularity.
My opinion and how I grasped it is logical: why do people make these army sites knowing that there are already around five other active ones? If it not be for popularity it may be for that itching sensation of being a creator, a leader, above others and the ones that work for you. Power! Jurisdiction! Authority!
Why do we have them?
Your guess is as good as mine. There is no absolute dependency on army sites. It’s not like a person can check up on other armies if they please. Army sites are created to tie a community together with tournaments, or polls. Reporting has been always thought of as something we as a community need. Though what does reporting really accomplish: Do we really need to know about these armies and who their at war with, whom their leaders are, if their dead or alive, or philosophy we hear over and over again? Is that really relevant to our own state of being?
The reason we have them
Top tens over the years have become an absolute necessity to survival for armies. If your army isn’t in a top ten, you’re a nobody. Nobody will join your conquest. There are plus sides to top tens, creating friction and starting wars that can help market the participating armies. There needs to be a point in our army timelines where we question the top tens, whether we continue on or we stop glorifying opinions. Picture a world without these sites, if you can; armies may be a tad boring, possibly due to less wars, there would be no real interaction in-between two leaders.
My first philosophy post in quite a while. I understand that this has been done before, plenty and plenty of times. Think of it as me just refurbishing your brain with the idea. News sites have been around for quite a while, five years now, so the question stands: do we need them to survive?
What do YOU think? What is your opinion on news sites? Is the top ten for the good of armies or bad? Let us know in the comments below!
